Tooth Decay Increasing for Eastern Ontario Children, Causing Concern

Eastern Ontario dentists are concerned about the increase in tooth decay among their child patient base.

CTV News recently reported on data from Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington (KFL&A) Public Health that showed an increase of 60 percent in tooth decay for kindergarten children over the last four years.

A local dentist said the issue is “multifactorial” and not necessarily just due to more high-sugar food consumption. Affects from the pandemic are still ongoing as dental visits were missed and oral hygiene routines were disrupted. The cost of living also impacts access to dental visits and healthier lifestyle options.
