Understanding Canadians’ experiences with digital health
Canadians are increasingly frustrated with a healthcare system lacking seamless communication and information sharing. Canada Health Infoway’s 2023 Canadian Digital Health Survey found:
- 42 per cent of Canadians report experiencing gaps in care coordination and clinical communication, commonly citing frustration due to repeating information to different healthcare providers.
- Only half of Canadians surveyed said their healthcare providers have access to their health history prior to the visit.

A more connected and collaborative system is a healthier system. Connected Care is about modernizing our health care system to enable the seamless flow of health data across information systems, between care providers, and to patients. This means:
- Patients can access and manage their health information, empowering them to take an active role in the healthcare journey and make informed decision-making about their care.
- Clinicians have a full picture of the patients’ health history, to seamlessly communicate and collaborate at the point of care and across care teams with other healthcare professionals.
Canadians want modernized care: connected care is the answer.
Canadians are overwhelmingly in favour of a more connected healthcare system:
- Over four in five Canadians surveyed agree their health information should be electronically shared among all healthcare practitioners.
- Nearly four in five say they would be motivated to share their health information electronically if privacy is protected.
This data shows Canadians welcome the adoption of Connected Care solutions.
