What Is Period Underwear? A Symbol of New Freedom

A revolutionary trend is gaining momentum in menstrual products – period underwear.

Whether worn as a standalone option or paired with menstrual cups for added protection, period underwear provides comfort and confidence throughout the menstrual cycle.

How Does Period Underwear Work?

INTIMINA recently launched Bloom period underwear, which features a specially-engineered gusset lining that combines super-absorbent, breathable technology with a leak-proof membrane to keep you dry.

The gusset quickly absorbs blood without added thickness so you can stay comfortable and dry. Its main body and lining are 95% organic cotton and 5% spandex, and most importantly, body-safe.

Why Use Menstrual Undewear?

Gone are the days of disposable pads and tampons. Instead, women are opting for a greener, more comfortable alternative that aligns with their eco-conscious values.

It Holds More Blood

Bloom period underwear is designed to hold even a heavy menstrual flow, up to 20 ml / 0.67 fl oz. of liquid, which is the equivalent of 4 regular tampons per wear.

For flows heavier than that, we suggest combining them with one of our menstrual cups.

It’s Cheaper than Single-Use Alternatives

On average, women spend more than $1,500 a year on throw-away products like pads and tampons. A box of 36 tampons is around $7, so opting for period underwear can save you that monthly cost to use towards other essentials.

It’s Better for the Environment

As awareness grows around the environmental toll of disposable menstrual products, more women are embracing period underwear as a sustainable choice that not only reduces waste but also promotes a healthier, more natural approach to menstruation.

To investigate what factors are most important to women when it comes to menstrual products, INTIMINA conducted a social media survey of 450 respondents. They found that 89% of respondents said they use reusable products for menstruation, either solely or combined with disposable menstrual products.

Health is the most important reason (38%) for using reusable menstrual products, while other reasons are sustainability (31%) and saving money (20%).

While most respondents use menstrual cups (81%), only 43% use menstrual underwear. Also, 32% always or sometimes use menstrual cups and underwear together.

It Minimizes Leaks

For many menstruating individuals, leakage is a constant concern and the biggest fear during their periods. For 54% of respondents, reusable menstrual products like menstrual cups, discs, and menstrual underwear provide superior protection against leaks, giving them comfort and relieving them from stress caused by fear of leakage.

As the demand for affordable and effective period products continues to rise, period underwear remains at the forefront as a reliable option. Couple that with heavier protection and less leakage and you may just discover the perfect menstrual product for you.
